ข้าวผัดหมูกรอบ 40 บาท

The lady at the restaurant seemed rather pissed off at us for our lack of Thai. My Thai has fallen drastically this last week as I've been practicing music about 3-4 hours a day in lieu of practicing any Thai. Logistically speaking music will probably remain more useful to me, but I did feel absolutely horrible with my lack of comprehension and possibly unintelligible accent when ordering food. Then the lady asked if I spoke Chinese. So we spoke in Mandarin and that was much better. Then before we left (on getting the check) I asked her why she speaks Chinese. Apparently she's Chinese. From Canton. Immediately we began conversing in Cantonese about 30 times faster than before. Her face lit up in the way that only a cynical racist Chinese woman's can. I think she hated us less afterwards. (She still seemed to harbor resentment towards Aaron for his lack of Chinese). Oh language.
